Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest and most fundamental of the engineering disciplines. It applies the principles of physics, mathematics and materials science to the design, analysis, manufacture and maintenance of mechanical systems, from individual components to complex machines and structures. Its scope encompasses thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, dynamics, materials, manufacturing processes, control systems and design, and mechanical engineers work across virtually every sector of the economy that involves making things, moving things or generating power.
