Modern history and politics is a pairing that makes intuitive sense: to understand the political world we inhabit, you need to understand how it came to be, and to understand history, you need to grasp the political forces, conflicts, and structures that have driven change. Modern history focuses on the roughly two centuries since industrialisation began reshaping societies, while politics examines how power is organised, exercised, contested, and legitimated in states and internationally. Together they equip you with both a rich empirical knowledge of the modern world and a set of analytical frameworks for making sense of it.
