About this course

Philosophy has a claim to be the oldest academic discipline and remains one of the most intellectually demanding and rewarding. It asks questions that other disciplines take for granted: What is knowledge and how is it possible? What is the nature of reality, of mind, of meaning? What makes actions morally right or wrong? What do we owe to each other, and why? The value of philosophical training lies not only in engaging with these questions but in the rigour and precision of the methods used to do so: careful reading of complex arguments, the construction of valid reasoning, the identification of assumptions and their implications, and the communication of positions with precision and economy.
