Planning and real estate together address some of the most consequential questions about how cities, towns and regions develop. Urban planning is concerned with how land is used and developed, how places are shaped through policy and regulation, and how communities and environments are protected or enhanced through the decisions of planners, developers and government. Real estate brings a commercial and financial dimension to these questions, examining how property markets work, how investment decisions are made and how the value of land and buildings is created and managed. The two disciplines are closely related in practice, and studying them together gives you a genuinely comprehensive view of the built environment sector.
