About this course

Sociology and law is a combination that explores the formal rules of social life and the social forces that shape, sustain, and sometimes undermine those rules. Law provides the institutional framework through which rights are defined, obligations enforced, and disputes resolved. Sociology provides the analytical tools to ask why legal systems look the way they do, whose interests they serve, how they interact with inequality and power, and what the limits of law as an instrument of social change actually are. At the University of Gloucestershire, the BA Sociology and Law is a three-year full-time programme that develops both sets of skills in an integrated and mutually reinforcing way.
