Vision rehabilitation is a specialist healthcare discipline concerned with helping adults who have acquired a vision impairment to live as independently as possible. Sight loss can be caused by a wide range of conditions including age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and many others, and its effects on daily life can be profound, affecting mobility, self-care, reading and communication, work, and social participation. Vision rehabilitation specialists work directly with adults with visual impairments to assess their functional needs, teach adaptive techniques and skills, and introduce low vision aids, assistive technology, and environmental modifications that help people maintain their independence and quality of life.
