About this course
English as a degree subject is the study of literature in English, broadly conceived: the novels, poetry, drama, essays, and other forms that have been produced in the English language across centuries and across the world, from the Old English of Beowulf to the contemporary fiction of Kazuo Ishiguro or Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It asks what texts mean and how they achieve their effects, how they are shaped by and in turn shape their historical and cultural contexts, and what reading carefully and critically can tell us about language, imagination, and human experience. At Northeastern University London, this three-year, full-time programme combines literary study with the distinctive educational philosophy of Northeastern, which has long emphasised experiential learning and the integration of academic and professional development. You will engage with a broad curriculum of English lite
