History of Art/Russian

About this course
History of art and Russian is an ambitious pairing that opens up one of the richest artistic traditions in the world through both its images and its language. History of art seeks to understand how and why paintings, sculptures, buildings, and works of design come to look the way they do, examining the social, cultural, and intellectual contexts that shape visual production and the ways in which art objects carry and transform meaning across time and place. Russian opens up a literary, cultural, and artistic tradition of extraordinary depth, from the icons of medieval Rus to the avant-garde, and from nineteenth-century realism to Soviet and post-Soviet art and cinema. At the University of Glasgow this five-year programme includes a sandwich year and work placement experience, giving your studies a genuinely professional dimension alongside the academic depth of two demanding disciplines
