About this course
Midwifery is the healthcare profession centred on supporting women and birthing people through pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postnatal period. Midwives are autonomous practitioners who provide care across the full continuum of normal childbirth, recognising complications and coordinating with medical colleagues when situations require it. It is a profession that demands both deep scientific knowledge and highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, and that carries significant responsibility for the wellbeing of both mother and baby at one of the most significant moments of their lives. At the University of Chester, this three-year full-time Midwifery degree is designed around an equal balance of theory and practice placement experience, with fifty per cent of the programme spent in theoretical and simulated learning and fifty per cent in clinical placements.
