About this course

Primary education as an academic field is far richer than its name might suggest. It draws on psychology, philosophy, sociology, and history to ask some of the most important questions in social life: how do children develop and learn, what should schools teach and why, who benefits from education as it currently operates, and how can practitioners create learning environments in which every child is able to thrive? These questions require both theoretical rigour and genuine engagement with the realities of teaching and working with children. At Birmingham Newman University, this four-year, full-time programme includes a foundation year, providing a structured and supported entry point for students who are building the academic foundations needed for degree-level study.
