Biomedical science is the laboratory-based discipline that provides the scientific foundation for modern clinical medicine. It applies biological and chemical knowledge to the investigation of disease processes, generating the diagnostic information that clinicians use to assess patients and guide treatment decisions. Haematology, clinical biochemistry, medical microbiology, cellular pathology, and immunology are among the core disciplines within the field, and biomedical scientists work across all of them, carrying out the tests and analyses that underpin the majority of clinical decisions made in healthcare every day.
