About this course

Education and history is a combination that brings together two disciplines that each ask fundamental questions about how societies pass on knowledge, values, and culture across generations. Education studies examines how schooling and learning are organised, what purposes education serves, and how educational institutions shape individual and collective life. History asks how societies have changed over time, how we know what we know about the past, and how historical understanding can illuminate the present. Together the two subjects develop a broad and critical perspective on how societies reproduce and transform themselves through the institutions of learning and through the transmission of historical knowledge. At Edge Hill University you will study this three-year full-time programme, which includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a placement. Edge Hill has a strong reputation
