About this course

Environmental management addresses one of the defining challenges of the twenty-first century, the question of how human societies can use natural resources, build infrastructure, and organise economic activity in ways that do not undermine the ecological systems on which all life depends. It is a discipline that draws on natural science, social science, economics, and policy analysis, asking students to understand environmental problems at both a technical and a governance level. The ability to think across disciplines and to move between scientific evidence and policy recommendation is central to what the field develops. At the University of Manchester, this four-year full-time programme includes a placement that gives you structured professional experience as part of your degree. Manchester is a leading research university with particular strengths in sustainability, urban governance
