Mental health nursing is a registered profession at the heart of how the NHS and other healthcare providers respond to the full spectrum of mental health difficulties, from acute crisis intervention and inpatient psychiatric care to community support for people living with long-term conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and personality disorders. Mental health nurses build therapeutic relationships, assess risk, administer and monitor medication, deliver psychological and psychosocial interventions, and work alongside psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other professionals in multidisciplinary teams.
