About this course

Biomedical science is the bridge between the fundamental biological sciences and clinical medicine, concerned with understanding the biological mechanisms of human disease and developing the laboratory methods used to diagnose and monitor it. It encompasses haematology, clinical biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, histopathology and cellular pathology, and it is biomedical scientists who perform the vast majority of diagnostic laboratory tests on which clinical decisions in hospitals and GP surgeries depend. Human biosciences deepens this foundation with a focus on the biological systems of the human body and how they interact in health and disease.
