Illustration is a discipline that sits at the boundary of fine art and visual communication, combining the expressive potential of image-making with the purposefulness of design. Illustrators create images that tell stories, convey information, evoke emotion, and give visual form to ideas across an enormous range of contexts, from children's books and editorial journalism to animation, games, film, and public campaigns. It is a discipline that rewards both technical skill and the capacity for original visual thinking, and it demands a clear understanding of how images work and what they can do in the world.
