About this course

Child nursing is a distinct branch of nursing practice dedicated to the care of infants, children, and young people, from neonates in intensive care to teenagers managing long-term conditions. It is a specialism that requires not only strong clinical knowledge but also an acute ability to communicate with children at different developmental stages, to involve families sensitively in care decisions, and to adapt assessment and intervention techniques to patients whose physiology, psychology, and communication abilities change significantly across the age range. Child nurses work in some of the most emotionally demanding and rewarding contexts in healthcare. At the University of Manchester, this three-year degree leads to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a children's nurse.
