About this course
Physics with theoretical physics is a degree that pushes beyond the standard curriculum of experimental and applied physics into the deep mathematical structures that underlie physical reality. Theoretical physics asks how the fundamental laws of nature can be expressed in the language of mathematics, and how those mathematical descriptions generate predictions about the behaviour of matter and energy that can be tested against experiment. It is one of the most intellectually demanding and rewarding areas of study in all of science. At the University of Bath this four-year full-time MPhys programme includes a research placement, giving you direct experience of working in a scientific research environment and developing the skills and instincts of a practising physicist. The range of final-year options is exceptionally broad, covering observational cosmology, high-energy astrophysical ph
