About this course

Sociology is the discipline that takes society itself as its subject matter, asking how social structures, institutions, and cultures shape the lives of individuals and groups. In a world of rapid and disorienting change, sociology offers some of the most important analytical tools available: the ability to look beneath the surface of social life, to understand inequality and power, to recognise how apparently individual experiences are shaped by larger social forces, and to think critically about the assumptions that govern everyday life.
