About this course

Biochemistry is the study of the molecular basis of life, asking how the chemical processes within and between cells sustain living organisms, how they respond to change, and how they break down in disease. It draws on chemistry, cell biology, genetics and molecular biology to investigate how proteins, nucleic acids and other macromolecules are built, how they function, and how the information encoded in genes is expressed, regulated and inherited. It is a discipline at the frontier of biological and medical science, with direct relevance to understanding and treating disease, developing new medicines and advancing biotechnology. This four-year full-time degree at the University of Glasgow includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to gain international research or academic experience.
