Creative arts and linguistics is an unusual combination that brings together the making and analysis of art with the scientific study of language, and the pairing is more coherent than it might first appear. Linguistics is the systematic study of how language works as a human system, examining sound, grammar, meaning, and the ways in which language varies across communities, cultures, and historical periods. Creative arts encompasses visual art, design, performance, and a range of other practices in which ideas are given aesthetic form. Together they develop a graduate who can think analytically about communication in both its verbal and visual dimensions.
