About this course

Physics is the most fundamental of the natural sciences, concerned with understanding the principles that govern the behaviour of matter, energy, space and time at every scale from the subatomic to the cosmological. It is the discipline that has given us quantum mechanics, relativity, electromagnetism and statistical mechanics, and that continues to address questions at the frontier of human knowledge about the structure of the universe, the nature of dark matter and dark energy, the behaviour of complex systems and the physics of life. It also provides the scientific foundation for technologies that shape modern life, from semiconductors and lasers to medical imaging and communication systems. This four-year full-time degree at the University of Hull includes a foundation year, which develops the mathematical and scientific grounding needed before you progress to degree-level physics.
