Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and behaviour, a discipline that asks why people think, feel, and act as they do and investigates those questions with the methods of careful observation, controlled experiment, and statistical analysis. It is both a natural science, concerned with the biological underpinnings of thought and emotion, and a social science, attentive to the ways in which relationships, culture, and social structure shape individual experience. The breadth of psychology means that studying it opens intellectual territory ranging from neuroscience and cognitive processes to social dynamics, development, and mental health.
