Computer science and mathematics is a combination that reflects the deep intellectual relationship between the two disciplines. Mathematics provides the formal foundations on which computing is built: logic, algebra, analysis, probability, and combinatorics all underpin the algorithms, systems, and theoretical results that computer scientists rely on. Computer science provides the practical and theoretical problems that motivate and apply mathematical thinking.
