Economics is sometimes described as the science of choice, but it is really the discipline that asks why the world is organised as it is and how it might be organised differently. From the price of milk to the consequences of the Euro crisis, from the causes of unemployment to the dynamics of global trade, economics provides the analytical frameworks and empirical tools to understand how individuals, firms, and governments make decisions and what the consequences of those decisions are for welfare, growth, and equality. It is a discipline that is both rigorously scientific in its methods and deeply concerned with questions of justice and human wellbeing.
