Economics provides the frameworks for understanding how markets, institutions, and individual decisions shape the allocation of resources and the distribution of wealth. Econometrics adds the statistical and mathematical tools needed to test those frameworks against real-world data, to estimate the size of economic effects, and to draw causal conclusions from complex, observational information. The combination is one of the most rigorous and analytically demanding available in social science, and it is in consistently strong demand from employers who need people who can reason about quantitative evidence as well as economic theory.
