About this course

Mental health nursing is one of the most challenging and one of the most important specialisms within the nursing profession. Mental health nurses work with people experiencing a wide range of conditions, from depression and anxiety to psychosis, eating disorders, personality disorders and dementia, providing therapeutic relationships, clinical interventions, and the kind of sustained human support that can make a fundamental difference to someone's recovery or quality of life. The work requires emotional intelligence, clinical knowledge, ethical clarity and the capacity to maintain professional boundaries while remaining genuinely human. At the University of the West of Scotland this three-year full-time programme includes a year abroad and is designed to lead to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a qualified mental health nurse.
