German studies is one of the richest and most rewarding disciplines in the modern languages curriculum, giving you access to a cultural and intellectual tradition that has shaped Western thought, music, philosophy, and literature in ways that few other languages can match. The German-speaking world, encompassing Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and parts of Belgium and Luxembourg, has produced Goethe and Kafka, Beethoven and Brahms, Kant and Hegel, Einstein and Freud, and a tradition of political and social thought that continues to shape how we understand modernity, democracy, and the relationship between the individual and the state. At the University of Warwick, this four-year full-time programme offers the opportunity to explore the extraordinary breadth and depth of German language and culture in collaboration with recognised experts in the field.
