Motorsport engineering is one of the most technically demanding and commercially competitive specialisations within the broader field of mechanical and automotive engineering. The technologies developed in Formula 1, GT racing, and other high-performance motorsport categories have long been laboratories for innovation that subsequently appears in road cars: aerodynamic design, lightweight composite materials, hybrid powertrains, data telemetry, and tyre and suspension systems have all been developed in motorsport before entering mainstream automotive engineering.
