Environmental and civil engineering sits at the intersection of the built and natural worlds, concerned with the design, construction, and management of the infrastructure on which modern society depends while responding to the environmental consequences of that infrastructure and seeking to minimise its impact on the natural systems it affects. Roads, bridges, water supply systems, flood defences, wastewater treatment, transportation networks, and coastal structures are all within the scope of the discipline, as are the environmental assessments and sustainability strategies that increasingly frame how engineering decisions are made.
