Geophysics with a Year Abroad
MSci · Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine · 4 years
About this course
Geophysics applies the principles of physics to the study of the Earth, from the deep structure of its core and mantle to the dynamics of its crust, oceans and atmosphere. It encompasses seismology, the study of how sound waves travel through the Earth and what they reveal about its interior; gravity and magnetic surveys that map subsurface structures; the physics of Earth's magnetic field and its reversals; and the remote sensing of oceans, ice and climate. Geophysics is therefore both a discipline of pure scientific inquiry and the technical foundation for the exploration of natural resources and the monitoring of natural hazards. At Imperial College you will study this four-year full-time programme, joining a research environment of international standing in the earth and planetary sciences. You will develop a rigorous grounding in the physics and mathematics that underpin geophysics
