International media and communications studies sits at the intersection of several important questions: how does information flow across borders, how do different societies organise and regulate their media systems, how does communication shape political and social life, and how are new technologies transforming all of these dynamics? It is a discipline that requires both close attention to how media works as a set of practices and institutions, and the broader analytical tools to situate those practices in their cultural, political, and economic contexts. At Nottingham, this four-year programme with a foundation year takes an explicitly international approach, examining media systems and communications practices across different national and regional contexts rather than focusing solely on the UK.
