Primary education with a mathematics specialism prepares you to teach children aged five to eleven, developing the knowledge, skills and professional values needed to work as a qualified teacher in England and Wales. A specialism in mathematics reflects the central importance of numeracy to children's education and life chances, and it prepares you to lead mathematical learning within a primary school setting as well as to teach across the full primary curriculum. The degree leads to Qualified Teacher Status on graduation. At the University of Gloucestershire this three-year programme combines academic study in education and mathematics with substantial school placement experience, approximately eight weeks per year in partnership schools.
