Biochemistry investigates life at the molecular level, examining the structures and functions of the biological molecules that constitute living organisms, and the chemical processes that allow those organisms to grow, respond to their environments, and reproduce. It occupies the junction between biology and chemistry, using the methods and concepts of both to understand phenomena ranging from enzyme catalysis and DNA replication to signal transduction and cell death.
