About this course
Chinese and Russian together represent perhaps the most geopolitically significant language combination available to university students today. Chinese, through the vast reach of Mandarin, provides access to the world's most populous country, its extraordinary literary and philosophical heritage, and its increasingly central role in global economics and politics. Russian, as the language of Russia and a major lingua franca across former Soviet states, opens an equally important cultural, literary, and geopolitical world, one with a literary tradition including Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, and Chekhov that is among the richest in world literature.
