About this course

Criminology and sociology is a combination that develops a comprehensive understanding of criminological and sociological perspectives on the causes and consequences of crime, the criminal justice system, and the broader societal structures in which both are embedded. Criminology asks why crime happens, who commits it, who is victimised, and how the institutions of policing, prosecution, courts, and prisons respond. Sociology provides the theoretical and empirical framework for understanding how those institutions, along with the wider structures of class, race, gender, and power, shape the experiences of individuals and communities. Together the two disciplines equip you to engage rigorously with human behaviour and societal dynamics.
