Cyber security is the discipline concerned with protecting computer systems, networks, and data from attack, damage, and unauthorised access. As society has come to depend on digital infrastructure for everything from financial transactions and healthcare records to critical national systems and personal communications, the ability to secure those systems has become a matter of both economic and strategic importance. Cyber security professionals need both deep technical knowledge and the capacity to think like an adversary, anticipating how systems might be compromised and designing defences accordingly.
