About this course

Pharmacy is the science of medicines: how they are discovered, synthesised, formulated, tested, and used safely and effectively in the treatment of disease. A pharmacist must understand the biochemical and physiological mechanisms through which drugs act, the processes of absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion that determine how a medicine behaves in the body, and the clinical and patient-facing dimensions of medicines use that make safe prescribing and dispensing possible. It is a profession that combines scientific rigour with direct responsibility for patient welfare.
