About this course
Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest and most versatile of the engineering disciplines, concerned with the design, analysis and manufacture of systems that involve motion, forces and energy. It encompasses everything from the design of individual components and mechanisms to the engineering of complex systems including vehicles, turbines, robotic systems, medical devices and manufacturing processes. Mechanical engineers apply principles of physics, materials science, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and computational modelling to create solutions that are efficient, safe and fit for purpose. At the University of Dundee, this four-year full-time BEng programme includes a year abroad, giving you an international dimension to your engineering education.
