Mental health nursing is the specialism concerned with caring for people experiencing psychological distress, mental illness, and related complex needs. It requires a combination of clinical knowledge, therapeutic skill, and human sensitivity that makes it one of the most demanding and most meaningful areas of nursing practice. Mental health nurses work across a wide range of settings, including acute inpatient wards, crisis and emergency teams, community mental health services, forensic units, substance misuse services, and services for children and older adults.
