Software engineering is the disciplined practice of designing, building, testing, and maintaining software systems that are reliable, scalable, and fit for purpose. It is distinct from computer science in its emphasis on the professional processes, methods, and team structures through which complex software is produced in real organisations, and it is one of the most consistently in-demand disciplines in the modern economy, because virtually every organisation now depends on software to function.
