About this course

Criminology is the academic study of crime: why it happens, how it is defined and measured, how society responds to it, and what the effects of those responses are on individuals and communities. It is a discipline that sits at the intersection of sociology, psychology, law, and policy, drawing on each to develop a critical and evidence-based understanding of crime and the criminal justice system. Studying criminology challenges simple narratives about crime and punishment, asking difficult questions about power, inequality, and the social construction of deviance.
