Advanced computer systems, digital circuits, power electronics, communications networks, photonics, robotics, medical equipment, electric vehicles and the next generation of mobile data transmission all depend on the principles and innovations that electrical and electronic engineers develop and apply. The discipline combines electromagnetic theory, circuit design, signal processing, control systems, embedded computing and materials science, and its scope continues to expand as digital technology penetrates more of the physical world.
