Sport and exercise psychology is concerned with the mental and psychological factors that influence performance, participation, and wellbeing in sport and physical activity. It draws on both psychology and sport science to understand motivation, confidence, concentration, anxiety, team dynamics, and the psychological aspects of injury and recovery. As the role of mental skills in athletic performance has become better understood, sport psychologists have become an increasingly valued part of professional and elite sport environments.
