About this course
Sport coaching is the professional discipline concerned with guiding athletes and participants to improve their performance, enjoyment, and wellbeing through physical activity and sport. Effective coaching requires knowledge of exercise physiology, sports psychology, biomechanics, nutrition, and pedagogy, as well as the communication skills, emotional intelligence, and tactical understanding that allow coaches to work with diverse individuals and groups across different contexts. It is a discipline that is both scientifically grounded and fundamentally human in its application. This four-year full-time programme at the University of Northampton includes a foundation year for students who need additional preparation before the main degree.
