Early Childhood Education is the study of how children learn, develop, and flourish in the earliest years of life, from birth through to around eight years of age. It is a discipline that brings together developmental psychology, educational theory, sociology, neuroscience, and policy analysis to understand what young children need, how they are best supported, and what factors shape their trajectories over time. The early years of life are now recognised as a period of extraordinary developmental significance: the quality of care, education, and relationships children experience in these years has long-lasting effects on their learning, wellbeing, and life chances. Early Childhood Education takes this seriously both intellectually and practically.
