About this course

Early childhood studies is an interdisciplinary field concerned with understanding and supporting the development, wellbeing and rights of children from birth to around eight years of age. It draws on developmental psychology, sociology, education, social policy and health to examine how young children grow, learn and thrive, and how the environments, relationships and services that surround them shape their outcomes. It is a field with strong ethical and political dimensions, concerned not just with what children need but with what they are entitled to and with how inequalities in childhood play out across the life course. At the University of Gloucestershire, this three-year full-time degree is aligned with the QAA Benchmarks for Early Childhood Studies degrees and is a member of the Early Childhood Studies Degree Network, which means the programme meets nationally recognised standard
