About this course
Sport coaching is the professional practice of developing athletes and teams, combining knowledge of sport science, pedagogy, psychology, and leadership to help individuals and groups improve their performance, enjoyment, and wellbeing through sport and physical activity. Coaches operate at every level, from community grassroots settings and school sport through to elite performance environments, and the best coaches draw on deep technical knowledge of their sport, strong interpersonal skills, and an understanding of how people learn and develop physically and psychologically. At the University of the West of Scotland, this four-year full-time programme develops your understanding of coaching across these dimensions. You will study the physical sciences underpinning sport, including exercise physiology, biomechanics, and sports psychology, alongside coaching pedagogy, talent development
