The history of art is the study of how human beings have made meaning through visual and material objects across cultures and centuries. It trains you to look carefully and to ask why things look the way they do: what decisions did the maker take, what ideas circulated in the culture that shaped the work, and how has the meaning of an object shifted as it moved through different hands and contexts? World philosophies extends that enquiry by asking how different intellectual traditions have understood knowledge, reality, ethics and existence. Together these subjects offer a rigorous and genuinely cross-cultural education in ways of seeing and ways of thinking.
