It is concerned with the design, analysis, manufacture, and maintenance of mechanical systems, from the smallest components to the largest machines and structures. Its foundations in physics and mathematics give it enormous versatility, and mechanical engineers work in fields as diverse as automotive, aerospace, energy, manufacturing, robotics, biomedical devices, and environmental engineering. The discipline develops both the analytical depth to understand complex systems and the practical ingenuity to design solutions to real problems.
